Advantage contains a new active ingredient, imidacloprid which is a chloronicotinyl nitroguanidine, from the nitromethylene class of compounds. The new active ingredient has a mode of action unlike any other flea control product. Advantage can be used as the only product for flea control as it breaks the flea life cycle and kills all fleas emerging from the environment to reinfest the dog or cat. Advantage cat flea control may be used for preventative flea control, as a single dose if reinfestation from outside animals is a possibility, or monthly for continuous control. Advantage is non staining, non sticky or oily and has no strong chemical smell. Advantage cat flea control may be used at the same time as treatment for worms with Drontal/Droncit and with daily or monthly preventative treatment for heartworm.
